Glucagon Hormone
Glucagon:
- Glucagon is a peptide hormone produced by the alpha cells of the pancreas.
- Its primary function is to regulate blood glucose levels. When blood sugar levels drop, such as between meals or during periods of low blood glucose, glucagon is released.
- Glucagon stimulates the liver to break down glycogen into glucose and release it into the bloodstream. This process raises blood sugar levels and provides energy to the body.
